Finite Group

Finite Group is a collective of cool maths people who want to have nice conversations about mathematical ideas. We’ll host monthly video chats in which we discuss a mathematical idea or something maths-adjacent, with one host notionally ‘explaining’ something (although we may not know any more about the topic than anyone else!) and others joining in the conversation. We’ll expect a level of maths knowledge equivalent to about high school/college level, and if anything is under-explained there’ll be the opportunity to ask questions.The monthly live chats will take place in a channel within Discord and we will attempt to record the chat so community members who miss it live can watch back for a short time afterwards.As well as our monthly video chats, we will have a Discord server, where community members can chat, share mathematical content, including puzzles, jokes and memes, links to maths papers, written content or videos, or anything else they think people may find interesting. Signing up to the Patreon will allow you to automatically add yourself to the Discord, and you can use it like any chat system to send messages, react and reply to other people’s posts and share images and links. We hope this will be a place to build a community and make friends, as well as plan and remind people about our monthly streams.
